About the AIFC and the BCPD
Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) is a financial hub for Central Asia, the Caucasus, EAEU, the Middle East, West China, Mongolia and Europe.
In December 2015 President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the Constitutional law “On the Astana International Financial Centre”. The aim of the AIFC is to form a leading international centre of financial services. For the first time in post-Soviet region Common law framework has been introduced in the AIFC.
The objectives of the AIFC are to attract investment into the economy through the establishment of an attractive environment for investment in the financial services, to develop local capital markets, to ensure their integration with the international capital market, and to develop markets for insurance and banking services and for Islamic financing in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The AIFC operates within a special legal regime based on Common Law, which regulates the legal relationships between AIFC participants and third parties and is aimed at the development of the financial market.
The AIFC main priorities
In order to contribute to the AIFC’s competitive edge as a financial centre over the longer term, the Bureau for Continuing Professional Development (BCPD Ltd) was created as a subsidiary of the AIFC Authority on the 29th of August 2016.
BCPD Ltd is responsible for human capital development in the financial industry of Kazakhstan, ultimately creating a critical mass of professionals for the AIFC eco-system and beyond. In addition, the BCPD is responsible for investment and financial literacy programmes related to the AIFC’s core pillars including Islamic finance, fintech, capital markets, green finance, as well as asset and wealth management.
About the competition
The AIFC and the BCPD are pleased to announce the “Best Analyst” research competition within the Cooperation Plan between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the AIFC. This competition is open to articles and research papers written on the areas relevant for the Astana International Financial Centre. The purpose of the competition is to encourage and stimulate interest in research in a variety of areas and to create a pool of research experts.
Requirement for entries
Participants will be asked to write a research paper on the topic relevant to the AIFC research areas. For the selection process participants will have to submit their research project abstracts, the research problem and motivation for the work, background and related work.
